Amita Bey, Ed.D., MPH

Amita Bey, Ed.D., MPH, is the associate director of the Office of Inclusion and Health Equity (OIHE). Her extensive experience includes domestic and international multi-institutional clinical research, assessment of health disparities in the treatment of pediatric chronic diseases and global health program evaluation. Her current position includes employee training in unconscious bias, cultural competency and civil behavior in the workplace for faculty, staff and learners.

Prior to her current position, Bey served as the program director for the VUMC Surgical Outcomes Center for Kids (SOCKs) at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. She was responsible for developing an educational training program and comprehensive research curriculum for medical students and undergraduate trainees. She served as an epidemiologist in immunization services at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Bey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Tuskegee University, a Master’s degree in Public Health in Global Studies with a focus in epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a Doctorate in Learning Organizations and Strategic Change from Lipscomb University.
